Living Faith Bible Institute Capstone Research Database
The Capstone Research Database is an online resource comprised of scholarly research and study relevant to the mission of the Living Faith Bible Institute, specifically: Biblical Studies, Biblical Counseling, Ministry Leadership, Missions, Theology/Philosophy and Church History.
The Capstone courses are designed for students who have completed prerequisite coursework in a specific area of theological or ministerial study and are prepared to engage in advanced research. The course challenges students to develop a comprehensive, well-researched article that explores a focused topic within their chosen content area. Each student is responsible for producing an original, scholarly work that not only demonstrates mastery of their subject but also makes a meaningful contribution to the Living Faith Fellowship’s ministerial body of knowledge. The goal is to utilize student knowledge and exploration to develop and provide future students, pastors, and ministry leaders with resources that are biblically sound, practically applicable, and academically and missionally advancing. The Capstone places an emphasis on research methodology, theological clarity, ministerial relevance, and the application of biblical principles into the selected topic.

Finding Freedom from the Performance Trap: A Comparison of Premises, Analyses, and cures for perfectionism proposed by secular psychology and the Bible
Author: Charity Fluharty
Abstract: Perfectionism is becoming an increasingly prevalent problem to our world today, yet it is a relatively little-researched topic in the fields of secular psychology and biblical Christianity. It is only within the last 30 years that perfectionism has been identified as a psychological problem that can negatively impact all aspects of one’s health and has begun to be researched and dealt with professionally. The purpose of this thesis is to compare and contrast secular and biblical definitions of perfectionism and their counseling approaches and outcomes. While psychology and Christianity agree on the symptoms and side effects of perfectionism, they differ in their views of the nature of man, the root cause, the cure, and the efficacy thereof. To understand and help an afflicted person, it is essential to examine the underlying assumptions and beliefs, and then…
A Cross-Cultural Analysis of the Application of Biblical Principles to Treat Depression in Chinese Young Adults
Author: Anna Ryan
Abstract: This capstone project investigates the unique ways that Chinese young adults suffer from depression, and it also recommends the philosophical and methodological frameworks that a mental health counselor can employ to effectively treat these cases. The current plight of the Chinese population is that though many individuals suffer from depression, there is a dearth of psychotherapeutic counseling to address the need. Related to this, much of the counseling world is still learning how to apply what are primarily Western methods of counseling to a distinctly different Eastern culture. The tight control exercised by China’s Communist government makes any sort of foreign intervention—especially that of the psychological nature—incredibly difficult, and yet it is this very system that is contributing greatly to the mental health state of the population…
The Church’s Role: A Comprehensive Model for Alcoholism Recovery
Author: Lydia Khoo
Abstract: Alcoholism is a pervasive issue in society affecting people physiologically and spiritually, and is one of the leading preventable causes of death in the United States. Despite the severity of this issue, the church has failed to respond effectively. This study analyzes both the disparities and the commonalities between secular and biblical counseling approaches to addressing addiction, with the goal of curating a comprehensive, Christ-centered model for recovery in the local church. An analysis of modern therapeutic methods to break addiction cycles provides an understanding of how the church can integrate the most effective approaches to addiction treatment. By integrating biblical theology with evidence-based practices, the local church can reclaim its proper role as a faithful environment of recovery for those suffering from alcoholism…
